Before Truist Stadium — 100 Years of Aggie Stories

Before Truist Stadium

The Fields Where Aggie Homecoming History Was Made

Long before Aggies packed Truist Stadium, Homecoming football had a very different setting.

A&T's archival history says the 1926 Homecoming game against Hampton was played at the former Cone Athletic Grounds, near what is now the Summit and Wendover avenues area.

Then came an important moment in 1927.

A&T played Lincoln University at Greensboro's World War Memorial Stadium. According to the university's archival account, it was A&T's first game there and the first sporting event at the stadium where people of color were allowed access. A&T won 20–0 during its first CIAA championship season.

World War Memorial Stadium remained the home of Aggie football until the university completed what is now Truist Stadium in 1981.

For the centennial Homecoming game, A&T will face Elon University at Truist Stadium on Oct. 31, 2026. The university currently lists the game as sold out.

Different stadium.
Different generation.
Same Aggie Pride.
